The Artist - Janaki began dancing at the age of 6 and has been learning under Guru, and mother, Hema Sharma for the past 11 years. She has also received training from Shanta and VP Dhananjayan of Bharathakalanjali and Padmashri Adyar K. Lakshman of Bharatha Choodamani. She has performed in several group and solo items in various cities in the Midwest as well as in the East Coast in the United States.

She also teaches Bharathanatyam as part of Nritya Dance School. Janaki is also very active in the ethnic community of Kansas City and shares the art form and other aspects of Indian culture with others through seminars at various area elementary schools. This past May, Janaki graduated as salutatorian from Shawnee Mission East. In addition to dance, she pursued debate, mock trial, and painting. She is currently attending Columbia University in New York City.
